Owning a home is one of the most powerful ways to build wealth—but for many first-generation homebuyers of color, that dream remains out of reach. Systemic barriers have long prevented families of color from accessing homeownership opportunities, contributing to a staggering racial wealth gap. According to the Color of Wealth report from the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston, the median net worth of white families in Greater Boston is $250,000, while the median net worth of Black and Dominican families is just $8 and $0, respectively. The Welcome Home Fund is working to change this—one family at a time.
The Muncey Group launched The Welcome Home Fund as a 100% philanthropic initiative to help first-generation homebuyers of color—primarily single mothers—overcome one of the biggest financial hurdles: the down payment. Through $20,000 no-strings-attached grants, families are finally able to secure homeownership and build generational wealth.
Since 2022, we've partnered with Compass Working Capital (not affiliated with the Compass brokerage) to identify families best positioned to benefit from these grants. This nationally recognized nonprofit equips families with financial tools to build assets and move toward long-term stability.
To date, 17 families have received Welcome Home Fund grants, putting down roots and creating a better financial future for themselves and their children.
